Archival Overview

Legendary master drummer of Haiti who introduced sacred Vodou drumming to Carnegie Hall and world jazz stages.

Biographical Record

Ti Ro-Ro (born Raymond Baillargau) was the legendary master drummer of Haiti whose hypnotic mastery of the sacred Rada and Petwo drums elevated traditional percussion to international acclaim.

A premier drummer in Vodou sanctuaries and the National Folklore Troupe, Ti Ro-Ro performed alongside Katherine Dunham and Herbie Mann, recording iconic albums that introduced African-Haitian polyrhythms to American jazz and world music.

His lightning hand speed, tonal control, and ability to make the drum 'speak' earned him universal recognition as the king of the Haitian drum.
