Archival Overview
Thirty-second Mogho Naba who navigated the colonial era for thirty-seven years, defending traditional Mossi chieftaincy customs and providing leadership during World War I and II.
Biographical Record
Saïdou Koutou was enthroned as Mogho Naba Kom II in 1905, succeeding his father Mogho Naba Sigiri. Governing during the height of French colonial administration, Kom II deployed dignified diplomatic restraint to preserve the traditional customary hierarchy and spiritual ceremonies of the Mossi monarchy.
During both World War I and World War II, Kom II coordinated the mobilization of soldiers and logistics while continuously petitioning colonial governors for the administrative preservation and welfare of Upper Volta. He oversaw the historic Friday morning False Departure (Nabayius Gou) ceremony, preserving centuries-old royal liturgy that endures to this day at the Moro-Naba Palace in Ouagadougou.
