Biographical Record
Tomislav, of the House of Trpimirović, succeeded Duke Muncimir circa 910. Confronting aggressive Magyar horsemen threatening Central Europe, Tomislav halted their advances at the Drava River, unifying Pannonian Croatia with the Dalmatian littoral.
In 925, recognized by Pope John X as Rex Croatorum (King of the Croats), Tomislav was crowned, presiding over church synods in Split that shaped religious and political cohesion. Under his command, the Croatian navy dominated the Adriatic, repelling the formidable armies of Bulgarian Emperor Simeon I.
