Biographical Record

Alexis Michel Justin Lhérisson was an influential Haitian writer, lawyer, and journalist who gifted the nation its official national anthem.

In 1903, to commemorate the centennial of Haitian independence, Lhérisson composed the lyrics to 'La Dessalinienne', set to music by Nicolas Geffrard, which was officially adopted as the national anthem of Haiti.

He also pioneered the 'lodyans' literary genre with his beloved satirical novellas 'La Famille des Pitite-Caille' and 'Zoune chez sa Ninnaine', capturing authentic Haitian urban dialogue and popular humor.
