Biographical Record
Jonathan Petersen was Greenland's foremost 20th-century classical composer, organist, and linguistic scholar who set Henrik Lund's lyrics to music for the national anthem.
Trained in Copenhagen, Petersen returned to Nuuk to teach music, Danish, and Greenlandic grammar at the Ilinniarfissuaq teacher training college for over thirty years.
He composed numerous choral cantatas, hymns, and piano arrangements, and authored the standard Greenlandic grammar textbook and orthography studies that modernized Kalaallisut language instruction.
