Biographical Record

Ida Faubert (born Gertrude Florentine Félicitée Ida Salomon) was an elegant Haitian poet and writer whose literary salon in Paris hosted prominent figures of the French and Caribbean intelligentsia.

The daughter of Haitian President Lysius Salomon, Faubert published her celebrated poetry collection 'Cœur des Îles' in 1939, awarded the Prix Jacques Normand by the Société des Gens de Lettres.

Her delicate, poignant verses and collection of short stories 'Sous le ciel Caraïbe' explored female desire, maternity, exile, and nostalgic memories of the lush Haitian landscape.
