Archival Overview
Pioneering Greek composer, music theorist, and architect who introduced stochastic mathematics and architectural principles to avant-garde music.
Biographical Record
Iannis Xenakis was a revolutionary Greek composer and architect who reshaped 20th-century music by applying mathematical models, probability theory (stochastic music), and game theory to acoustic and electronic compositions.
Fighting in the Greek resistance during World War II, Xenakis suffered severe facial shrapnel wounds before escaping to Paris. Working as an architect alongside Le Corbusier, he designed the celebrated Philips Pavilion for the 1958 Brussels World Expo.
His musical masterworks, including 'Metastaseis' and 'Pithoprakta', created monumental sonic soundscapes that bridged mathematics, architecture, and visceral orchestral drama.
