Biographical Record

Hadja Mafory Bangoura was a fearless political organizer and women's rights pioneer who played a decisive role in the mobilization of Guinean women against French colonial rule.

Leading the historic 1953 general strike in Conakry, Bangoura mobilized market women and workers, organizing solidarity funds, food distribution, and peaceful protests that forced colonial authorities to capitulate to labor demands.

Following independence, she served as President of the Women's Wing of the Democratic Party of Guinea and Minister of Social Affairs, commemorated as a national mother of Guinean independence.
