Biographical Record
Georgios Jakobides was a master Greek academic painter renowned for his charming, luminously lit depictions of children and family domesticity.
Trained at the Munich Academy, Jakobides achieved prominent European success before King George I persuaded him in 1900 to return to Athens to organize and direct the newly established National Gallery of Greece.
His celebrated canvases, including 'First Steps' and 'Grandfather's New Pipe', captured the innocence of childhood with extraordinary technical delicacy and radiant light.
