Biographical Record
Galaktion Tabidze was Georgia's leading 20th-century lyrical poet, renowned for his melancholic musicality, avant-garde imagery, and profound emotional vulnerability.
Rising to fame in the 1910s and 1920s, Tabidze survived the traumatic Stalinist purges that claimed his wife Olga Okudzhava and numerous artistic companions, expressing his silent sorrow through sublime verse such as 'The Wind Blows' and 'The Moon of Mtatsminda'.
Recognized universally by Georgians as the supreme lyricist of their modern era, he was formally titled the 'King of Georgian Poets' by literary critics and his peers.
