Élisabeth Domitien was born in 1925 in Lobaye. Possessing exceptional mercantile acumen and political charisma, Domitien established thriving agricultural commerce, becoming the paramount leader of the women's wing of the ruling MESAN party and a trusted political adviser.
On January 2, 1975, President Jean-Bédel Bokassa appointed Domitien Prime Minister, creating an international milestone as the first woman to head a government in modern African history.
