Biographical Record
Costas Montis was born on February 18, 1914, in Famagusta. After studying law at the University of Athens, Montis chose literature, founding Cyprus's first professional theater and serving as head of tourism and cultural services.
His poetic collections—especially his distinctive Moments (Stigmes)—gained international renown for compressing tragic historical fate and Mediterranean beauty into epigrammatic, three-line verses. A Corresponding Member of the Academy of Athens, he was repeatedly nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature.
