Biographical Record
Chehem Daoud was born in Tadjoura circa 1947. Recognizing that the ancient oral heritage of the Afar was threatened by rapid urbanization, Daoud dedicated over four decades at Radiodiffusion Télévision de Djibouti (RTD) to collecting oral histories.
Traversing the volcanic plains of Lake Assal and the northern mountains, Daoud recorded nomadic bards, genealogies, and customary law codes (Mada'a). His original poetic compositions in the Afar language celebrated nomadic wisdom, communal hospitality, and environmental stewardship of the Horn's arid lands.
