Biographical Record

Dr. Cheddi Berret Jagan was a legendary Guyanese statesman, dentist, and political thinker universally revered as the 'Father of the Nation'.

The son of Indo-Guyanese sugarcane plantation indentured laborers, Jagan studied dentistry at Northwestern University before returning home to co-found the People's Progressive Party (PPP) in 1950, leading the fight for universal suffrage and independence.

Elected Premier in 1961 and President of Guyana in 1992 in the nation's first internationally certified free elections, Jagan championed the New Global Human Order, labor rights, and working-class empowerment.
