Biographical Record
Castera Bazile was one of the foremost masters of the first generation of Haitian naive painters, celebrated for his serene religious compositions and scenes of rural life.
Originally working as a maintenance worker at the Centre d'Art, Bazile began painting in 1945, quickly winning first prize in the national Caribbean art competition.
He completed three monumental frescoes in the Holy Trinity Cathedral—'The Ascension', 'The Baptism of Christ', and 'Christ Expelling the Moneylenders'—combining deep spiritual devotion with clean, expressive Haitian forms.
