Carl Christian Reindorf

Carl Christian Reindorf was a Euro-African Basel Mission pastor, educator, and foundational historian whose 1895 masterpiece 'The History of the Gold Coast and Asante' established modern indigenous African historiography.

Fluent in Ga, Twi, English, and German, Reindorf spent three decades interviewing elders, palace linguists, and priests across the Gold Coast, transcribing precious oral histories before they were lost to colonial disruption.

His meticulous documentation of indigenous battles, genealogies, and customary laws remains an indispensable cornerstone of West African historical scholarship.
