Archival Overview

Greenlandic politician, educator, and novelist who represented Greenland in the Danish Folketing and wrote the first science fiction novel in Kalaallisut.

Biographical Record

Augustinus 'Augo' Lynge was a visionary Greenlandic educator, politician, and author who championed the modernization and political integration of Greenland.

In 1931, Lynge authored 'Ukiut 300-ngornerat' (The 300th Anniversary), an imaginative speculative novel set in 2021 predicting a modern, educated, and self-governing Greenland. In 1953, he was elected as one of Greenland's first two representatives to the Danish Folketing.

He tragically perished aboard the passenger ship MS Hans Hedtoft when it collided with an iceberg south of Cape Farewell on its maiden voyage in January 1959.
